The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York is home to Lake George, New York. Lake George is in a beautiful part of the country and is just about an hour north of Schenectady, NY and just under 3 hours northwest of Boston, Massachusetts. Whether you are a resident or a tourist, there is something to do or see all year long. There are many beautiful homes in Lake George. In the spring, the winter thaw has begun and the rivers are ready for rafting. In the summer, the beaches and lakes are where to be. The rivers are hot spots for swimming, kayaking, and boating. These are great ways to beat the summer heat. In autumn, the scenic views begin. The leaves begin to change colors. Hikes, take a bike ride and taking a drive are excellent this time of year. In the winter, shopping indoors and seeing the museums are ways to pass the time. Lake George and the nearby areas also have historical and cultural attractions to see. Cooper's Cave in Glens Falls is where the movie, Last of the Mohicans, was filmed. Also in Glens Falls in a museum which houses many famous art works by Picasso, van Gogh, daVinci and more. In North Creek is The Barton Garnet Mine. This mine has the largest concentration of the January birthstone. The Adirondack Mountains are a huge tourist attraction and Prospect Mountain does not disappoint. The views from the top are phenomenal. You can see for miles. You can see all the Adirondack Mountains and into nearby states Vermont and New Hampshire. Even though this area is rich with tourists, there are locals as well. The town of Lake George has a population of 3, 578 according to the 2000 Census Bureau. This area is filled with people from all statuses. There are couples, families, single folks and the temporary resident. A large number of the residents are single and live alone. The median income for this area hovers right around 42, 000. A large number of the homes in this area do match up to this income level. There are homes here of all price ranges though. Most of the homes are older homes and there is not a lot, if any, new homes being built. A quick search on the internet showed one new home for sale. As stated, a lot of the homes are affordable. There are the high end homes here as well. These homes are typically located on the water and the prices reflect that. Some of those homes are up into the millions of dollars price range. There are also some waterfront properties for sale. These run up a very high price tag, up into the tens of millions of dollars. This area is a huge tourist attraction and there are plenty of places to stay if you visit. About half of the homes here have the homeowner occupying them. The rest of the homes are rentals and either vacation homes or part time residences. The Lake George area is a beautiful area in the Adirondack Mountains. This place is a wonderful place to visit and is also a great place if you are looking for a calm, secluded, small town area to settle down in. There are wonderful views and many historical sites making this a great place to be.
