There is much speculation surrounding the year 2012 because a lot of people believe there are great changes for this world on the horizon. Religions like Christianity predict the end of the world in its scriptures, Revelations and the Mayans mysteriously ended their calendar on this date.
1. Galactic Alignment
First proposed by author John Major Jenkins, the galactic alignment refers to the alignment with the solstice sun and the galactic equator. According to his calculations the alignment should occur within an 18 year stretch between the years 1980 to 2016. Galactic alignment happens once every 26,000 years.
Jenkins posited that the Mayan astronomers believed that the galactic alignment would collide with the "Dark Rift feature" that lies along the Milky Way. The Mayans believed that great changes would occur. Other people suggest that the galactic alignment could create a black hole that could swallow our planet; others find this prediction to be unscientific.
Planet X or Nibiru was postulated by a woman in Wisconsin in the mid-1990's, who claimed to have received messages from aliens called Zeta. She told reporters that an unknown planet will catalyze the end of the world by colliding with our planet. She said the event would take place in May of 2003 but obviously no such thing happened.
She has since changed her predictions to the year 2012.
According to the book of Revelations in the Christian Bible, the end of the world will come after the resurrection of the dead and the second coming of the Christ. Many people have been predicting the end of days since the early 20th century (and maybe even before that); the most credible threat coming in the year 1999, just before the new millennium, with the Y2K bug on everyone's minds.
The Bible states that there will be omens of the End like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that represent Death, War, Conquest and Famine. It's not hard to see that many of these harbingers are around us today. Famine and war rage around the world right now.
Are you prepared for the eventual End? Recently actor Ashton Kutcher was interviewed and he stated that he was preparing himself for "the end of days" by making sure his family with have enough provisions and that they're not entirely relying on technology and electricity. Are you making the same preparations now? Think about it!
