Heli Skiing Groups and Various Skill Levels

By: Fackler Lint

Most of the people who take a heli skiing trip are worried that they could be assigned to a group of skiers with a much greater level of experience. And it's quite the same for more experienced skiers, as they never want to be assigned to a group with a lot of beginners who can't keep up. In other words, nobody wants to end up in a group with skiers that are not in their category. However, most heliskiing operators do not leave these things for chance. They will most likely put groups together by taking the skill and experience level of their customers into account before anything else. Thus, they ensure that everyone has a good time.

The thing is that that is not the only problem a heli skiing operator or customer has to cope with. There are many other factors which may lead to a good or bad heli skiing trip, and they all need to be taken into account. First and foremost, the guide will be in charge of choosing the slopes you ski on, depending upon your experience and the one of the other skiers in your group. Once that has been assessed, he has to choose the type and number of helicopters which will be used to take you to the mountain top. This is usually done according to the number of skiers, altitude of the peak and distance between the lodge, helipad and the slope. Each helicopter can hold a certain number of people (we have already given you an account on the most popular helicopter models in a previous article) and if your group is too large, a couple or more helicopters will be used. Extreme heliskiing.

If your group is not large enough to fill a helicopter, more people with the same experience and skill could be selected to join your group, if they are travelling alone. Most heli ski operators will respect your wish to ski with your friends and, if you have a favorite guide, he will be assigned to your group if he is available. However, if your friends are more advanced than you, you will probably have to ski with other people who are more close to your ability.

That's about it on the matter for now. Please join us again soon for more interesting facts from the world of heli skiing.
