Mike at KillerGuitarTips again... Hi guys... This week I have something for all you beginners out there! As a new guitar player striving to become a great player you will need to "eventually" learn every note on the guitar fret board! Before you run off and hide in a corner, as I know this may seem really daunting at the moment, there is a really simple way for you to learn these notes. It is a common myth that it is difficult to learn all the notes on the fret board!! Until now!! So here goes:... There are twelve musical notes in total and we use the letters A B C D E F & G and the symbols # (sharp) or b (flat) to name them. All you have to do is remember that all the letters are followed by a #(sharp) or b(flat) EXCEPT B and E. To keep things simple we'll just use # for now!! Taking the fifth string played open produces the note of A. I chose this string as it's the start of the alphabet! Now being as the open string is A the 1st fret is A#, second fret B and the third fret is C (remember there is no # after B) the 4th fret is C# meaning the fifth fret is D... Carry on up the neck (remember there is no # after E) when you reach the twelfth fret you will be back at A again and the whole process starts again... Try practising this on every string, eventually you will be able to plop your finger on any note and be able to say what note that is instantly... I know this may sound a little tedious but hey you don't get anywhere without a little work and theory... Trust me it will pay off big time later on. Also this week I would like to give you two tips! So here's your second one... also for all you beginners out there... I know there hasn't been many tips for you guys as beginners but remember in the full audio/video program there is a secret structured progression from absolute beginner through to killer guitar player in the shortest possible time. So, don't despair if you feel these tips are a little tool much for you, why not subscribe to my free tips and tricks by going to www.killerguitartips.com and I will be send you a free tip each week and also the release date for this awesome audio/video program that will transform your guitar playing - GUARANTEED! So here we have another tips for beginners... You are no doubt aware that you have six strings on your guitar. The first string is the thinest and the sixth string is the thickest. If you playa a string without holding it down against the fret we call this playing the string open. This means we obviously have six open strings and each string should be tuned to a note. On a guitar standard tuning of open strings is as follows:- 6th string is E 5th string is A 4th string is D 3rd string is G 2nd string is B 1st string is E Learn these notes of these open strings as it forms the basis of your future guitar playing. You need to know these strings and their notes by second nature. I hope you are finding these tips I am giving you each week enjoyable and beneficial. Until next week... Enjoy, Cheers Mike
