I remember disney grad nite like it was ten years ago. It was ten years ago. I have not returned to Disney land since. I have been to the Orlando Disney land because I was there on business and our company gave us tickets and the day off to visit. But that Disney land does not have the Matterhorn so it is not the same. Do not misunderstand, graduation night at Disney land is a fine way to end high school graduation. And you can tell others agree with me. We were one of several hundred high schools there that night. The park was like a New York subway at rush hour. I remember riding on one ride, Mr. Toads Wild Ride. Why that ride you ask? Because it was the only ride I could find in the park that did not have a line a mile long. We were in the park from 10 p. M. Until eight the next morning. I did not want to miss the bus home waiting in line for the Matterhorn. By the way the Orlando Disney land does not have a Matterhorn. My plan for grad night seemed like a good one at the time. Later it proved not so good. Let me explain. I had started dating a girl in my class about two months before graduation. We had gone to high school four years together and had never met until then. We actually met at a college orientation function. We were going to the same college we found out at the event and might not have ever met if we had decided to go to different colleges. I am embarrassed to mention that not only did it take four years for us to meet, but it also took me four years of high school to get a date. I almost went through high school dateless. So spending time with a girl on grad night was my plan. Although by that time we were not heading to the more serious stage. It was fizzling out, but I wanted to fan the flame before that grad nite was over. And even though what little relationship I had with her was coming to an end by the time grad night was rolling around I thought having a date for grad night would be what made up graduation night memories. Well, I do have the memory that is for sure. We both had friends we also wanted to spend time with during grad night. So we planned to meet half way into the night after hanging out with our buddies. So my friends and I stood around the hub of the park and watched the masses pass to and fro. I kept looking at my watch. Finally it was time to meet her in frontier land. We met in frontier land and walked around for about an hour. We found a place to sit and drink a coke. We did not have really any more to talk about than I had with my friends earlier. Whatever we had once, which was not much, was gone. We decided for each of us to find our friends and call our grad night together a night. I did not see her again until we got to college where she started dating a college junior before the first week of the semester ended. But I will never forget my Disney grad nite; that Mr. Toads Wild Ride was killer...
